{"id":40361,"date":"2026-10-06T11:21:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T16:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=40361"},"modified":"2026-10-06T11:21:00","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T16:21:00","slug":"usps-can-deny-requests-for-commercial-information","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2026\/10\/06\/usps-can-deny-requests-for-commercial-information\/","title":{"rendered":"USPS can deny requests for commercial information"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"sub-head\">The Postal Service has a special FOIA exemption<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">10\/6\/26 &#8211; The Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA, is a law that grants the public the right to access records from the federal government, unless an exemption applies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Postal Service has a special exemption that allows the organization to withhold commercial information if it would not be good business practice to publicly disclose that information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This exemption can apply to information the Postal Service creates or information the organization obtains from customers or suppliers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Information is considered commercial if it relates to commerce, trade, profit or the Postal Service\u2019s ability to conduct itself in a businesslike manner.
