{"id":40242,"date":"2026-09-22T15:26:02","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T20:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=40242"},"modified":"2026-09-22T15:26:02","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T20:26:02","slug":"chicago-man-sentenced-to-12-years-for-trafficking-fentanyl-through-the-mail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2026\/09\/22\/chicago-man-sentenced-to-12-years-for-trafficking-fentanyl-through-the-mail\/","title":{"rendered":"Chicago Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Trafficking Fentanyl Through the Mail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text-align-justify\">CHICAGO \u2014 9\/22\/26 &#8211; A Chicago man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl and other drugs from Arizona to Illinois.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">In 2022 and 2023, ALONZO POWE arranged to receive numerous parcels of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine from various locations in Arizona.\u00a0 The shipments were sent via U.S. Postal Service to Powe\u2019s residence in the Wrightwood neighborhood on Chicago\u2019s South Side, as well as other Chicago-area addresses he controlled.\u00a0 In exchange for the narcotics-laden parcels, Powe mailed large amounts of cash to individuals in Arizona.\u00a0 Powe intended to distribute the narcotics to customers in and around the Chicago area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">Law enforcement conducted a court-authorized search of Powe\u2019s residence in 2023 and discovered a Postal Service box containing fentanyl, as well as numerous other bundles and plastic bags containing fentanyl.\u00a0 Powe\u2019s residence contained further evidence of significant narcotics activity, including a detailed drug ledger listing customers\u2019 names and prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">Powe, 55, pleaded guilty earlier this year to a federal drug charge.\u00a0 On Sept. 9, 2026, U.S. District Judge Manish S. Shah sentenced Powe to 12 years in federal prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">The sentence was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Nicholas Bucciarelli, Inspector-in-Charge of the Chicago Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">\u201cDefendant\u2019s narcotics activity was extensive and took place over a long period of time,\u201d Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan E.
