SPRINGFIELD, Mo. \u2013 8\/19\/26 – A Springfield, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court for assaulting a U.S. Postal Service worker.<\/p>\n
Courtney J. Ellis, 45, was sentenced to seven years, followed by three years supervised release for assaulting a postal worker while they were performing their official duties. Ellis pleaded guilty to the assault earlier this year.<\/p>\n
According to court documents, on June 18, 2025, Ellis struck the victim on the head with a wooden board while he was delivering mail to Ellis\u2019s address. The victim, who was delivering mail along that route for the first time, was wearing a USPS uniform and driving a marked USPS delivery vehicle. After striking the victim, Ellis yelled that he didn\u2019t belong in the neighborhood and followed him back to his vehicle where he continued to yell at and threaten the victim.<\/p>\n
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Randall D. Eggert. It was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Springfield, Mo., Police Department.<\/p>\n
