Ransomware is a malicious software that can encrypt files or block access to systems until a ransom payment is demanded. Cybercriminals commonly use phishing emails, malicious links, fake websites, attachments, and unauthorized USB devices to spread ransomware.<\/p>\n<p>The CyberSafe at USPS team recommends the following preventative measures to reduce the risk of an attack and operational impact:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep software, operating systems, and antivirus tools updated.<\/li>\n<li>Be cautious when opening links, attachments, or QR codes.<\/li>\n<li>Verify emails and requests before responding.<\/li>\n<li>Follow Postal Service procedures for backing up important data.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid using unauthorized devices or software.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you believe your device may be infected with ransomware, stop using it, and immediately disconnect it from the network, if possible.
