{"id":39474,"date":"2026-05-19T11:49:51","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T16:49:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=39474"},"modified":"2026-05-19T11:49:51","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T16:49:51","slug":"congresswoman-ann-wagner-r-mo-calls-for-fbi-investigation-into-criminal-allegations-involving-the-usps-st-louis-processing-facility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2026\/05\/19\/congresswoman-ann-wagner-r-mo-calls-for-fbi-investigation-into-criminal-allegations-involving-the-usps-st-louis-processing-facility\/","title":{"rendered":"Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO) Calls for FBI Investigation into Criminal Allegations Involving the USPS St. Louis Processing Facility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"elementtoproof\"><strong>Washington, D.C.\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 5\/14\/26 &#8211; Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO) released the following statement after she called for an FBI investigation into allegations from the Madison County, IL Sheriff&#8217;s Office of criminal mail theft and check washing connected to USPS processing facilities in the St. Louis region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are serious allegations that demand swift action from federal officials.\u00a0 I am horrified, but sadly not surprised to hear reports that the United States Postal Service (USPS) in St. Louis has been unwilling to fully cooperate with local law enforcement investigating crimes of mail fraud, check washing, and other criminal activity.\u00a0 The Postal Service serves the people, not themselves, and under no circumstances should they be hindering efforts to solve these crimes. \u00a0It\u2019s time for the FBI to step in immediately and get to the bottom of this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Congresswoman Wagner said in her letter to FBI Co-Deputy Director Andrew Bailey:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Sheriff\u2019s Office also raises serious concerns about the ability of local law enforcement to investigate these crimes. Specifically, the Sheriff\u2019s Office states that its efforts have been \u2018significantly hindered\u2019 by a lack of cooperation from USPS personnel and management, including unresponsiveness or refusal to provide meaningful assistance despite formal requests for surveillance access, operational information, and coordination with investigators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese allegations are deeply concerning on their own. They also come against the backdrop of persistent mail service and mail security concerns across the St. Louis region. My office has repeatedly raised concerns with USPS regarding delayed mail, operational failures, and the erosion of public confidence in postal service reliability in the region.
