{"id":39024,"date":"2026-02-13T10:13:43","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T15:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=39024"},"modified":"2026-02-13T10:13:43","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T15:13:43","slug":"federal-judge-sentences-man-to-more-than-four-years-in-prison-for-robbing-u-s-postal-service-carrier-in-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2026\/02\/13\/federal-judge-sentences-man-to-more-than-four-years-in-prison-for-robbing-u-s-postal-service-carrier-in-chicago\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal Judge Sentences Man to More Than Four Years in Prison for Robbing U.S. Postal Service Carrier in Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text-align-justify\">CHICAGO \u2014 2\/12\/26 &#8211; A federal judge has sentenced a man to more than four years in prison for robbing a United States Postal Service letter carrier in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">The robbery occurred on March 31, 2020, in the 1900 block of North Albany Avenue in Chicago\u2019s Logan Square neighborhood.\u00a0 DONTE HUGHES and another individual approached the carrier from behind as she was delivering mail.\u00a0 The other individual wrapped both arms around the carrier, preventing her from moving, while Hughes reached into the carrier\u2019s pocket and demanded property.\u00a0 The victim complied with the demand and turned over official USPS property.\u00a0 Hughes and the other individual then fled the area on foot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">Hughes was arrested in 2024.\u00a0 At the time of the robbery, he was on probation for a firearm-related conviction in state court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">Hughes, 34, of Chicago, pleaded guilty last year to a federal robbery charge.\u00a0 On Feb. 4, 2026, U.S. District Judge Jeffrey I. Cummings sentenced Hughes to four years and three months in federal prison for the robbery of the postal carrier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\">The sentence was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and\u00a0Mary T.
