WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014<\/strong>\u00a0This week, Congressman Tim Moore (NC-14) penned a letter calling on the U.S. Postal Service to immediately reopen the Chimney Rock Village Post Office, which has remained closed since Hurricane Helene devastated the region. Although repairs have been completed and a USPS assessment in October 2025 deemed the facility suitable for operation, the post office has not resumed service.<\/p>\n

\u201cReopening the Chimney Rock Village Post Office would provide much-needed stability and represent meaningful progress in the community\u2019s recovery. I strongly urge the Postal Service to act promptly to restore operations and ensure residents have access to the essential services they rely on,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Congressman Moore wrote in the letter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The extended closure has placed a significant burden on residents and small businesses, many of whom now travel outside the community for basic mail services \u2014 including prescription deliveries, bill payments, and other essential correspondence.<\/p>\n

Dear Postmaster General Steiner,
\nI am writing to urge the expedited reopening of the Chimney Rock Village Post Office in
\nChimney Rock, North Carolina. Restoring full U.S. Postal Service (USPS) operations is a critical
\nstep in the community\u2019s recovery effort and an essential service for residents and local
\nbusinesses.
\nAs you know, the Chimney Rock USPS facility was temporarily closed to undergo repairs
\nfollowing the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. In the months since, the facility owner
\nand community have worked diligently to complete those repairs, and an assessment conducted
\non October 31, 2025, confirmed that the facility is suitable to resume operations. Despite this
\ndetermination, postal services have not yet been restored, and the prolonged closure has created
\nunnecessary hardship for residents who rely on consistent mail delivery for prescriptions and
\nother essentials.
\nReopening the Chimney Rock Village Post Office would provide much-needed stability and
\nrepresent meaningful progress in the community\u2019s recovery. I strongly urge the Postal Service to
\nact promptly to restore operations and ensure residents have access to the essential services they
\nrely on.
