They are charged with armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.<\/p>\n<p>On November 12, 2024, at approximately\u00a01:30 p.m., Billerica Police responded to a report of two males who had\u00a0allegedly\u00a0robbed a postal employee.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation revealed that the two\u00a0juveniles\u00a0had traveled to Billerica from Lowell that morning by train, with the plan to rob a mail carrier. The suspects went to a neighborhood in the center of Billerica,\u00a0allegedly\u00a0located the victim and followed him for\u00a0a short amount of time before attacking him. The suspects\u00a0allegedly\u00a0struck the victim in the face, and one of the suspects, while holding what appeared to be a handgun, demanded that the victim hand over a mailbox key. The victim complied, and the defendants fled from the area. Detectives later recovered the defendants\u2019 outer clothing and the weapon in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Through witness interviews, review of surveillance footage and the execution of numerous search warrants over the course of several months, detectives identified\u00a0the\u00a0two juvenile males\u00a0involved. \u00a0They are from Lowell, aged 14 and 15.\u00a0The stolen mailbox key was recovered two months later.<\/p>\n<p>Both defendants were released on personal recognizance with conditions to stay away from and have no contact with the victim, have no contact with each other and to not possess any dangerous weapons or firearms.<\/p>\n<p>This case was investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney\u2019s Office, the United State Postal Inspection Service, Massachusetts State Police assigned to USPIS, Billerica Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney\u2019s Office. The prosecutor assigned to this case is Timothy Andrea.
