{"id":38663,"date":"2025-11-24T12:39:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T17:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=38663"},"modified":"2025-11-24T12:39:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T17:39:21","slug":"ernst-cortez-masto-stop-subsidies-for-political-junk-mail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2025\/11\/24\/ernst-cortez-masto-stop-subsidies-for-political-junk-mail\/","title":{"rendered":"Ernst, Cortez Masto Stop Subsidies for Political Junk Mail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON \u201311\/24\/25 &#8211;\u00a0 After 2.3 billion <a href=\"https:\/\/prc.gov\/fy-2024-acd-highlights#:~:text=Election%20Mail%20and%20Political%20Mail,2.3%20billion%20Political%20Mail%20pieces\">pieces\u00a0<\/a>of political mail flooded America\u2019s mailboxes in 2024, U.S. Senators Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) are introducing legislation to end subsidies that enable this junk mail to be sent at a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.postgrid.com\/nonprofit-mailing-rates\/\">40-60%\u00a0<\/a>discount.<\/p>\n<p>The bipartisan\u00a0<em>Ending Subsidies for Political Junk Mail Act<\/em>\u00a0revokes political committees\u2019 ability to send mail through the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) at the discounted non-profit rate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo more welfare for Washington consultants,\u201d\u00a0<strong>said Ernst.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cIf the American people must pay full price to send a Christmas card that their families actually want, then political parties should have to pay full price to send junk mail that nobody wants.
