Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and Ketty Larco-Ward, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Boston Division, announced that EZEKIEL BAILEY, 33, of Brooklyn, New York, waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty today in New Haven federal court to an identity theft offense stemming from a U.S. Postal Service fraud scheme.<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents and statements made in court, the U.S Postal Inspection Service began an investigation after receiving reports that an individual had been passing, and attempting to pass, bad checks to purchase thousands of dollars in postage stamps from U.S. Post Offices in Connecticut and surrounding states.\u00a0 The investigation revealed that Bailey had used the identities of three separate victims, fake driver\u2019s licenses, and checks linked to empty bank accounts that had been created in the victims\u2019 names, to purchase $98,000 in stamps from U.S. Post Offices in Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Massachusetts, and elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>On January 20, 2023, Bailey was arrested on related state charges after he attempted to purchase 25 books of postage stamps for $300 at post office in Stonington.\u00a0 He possessed two fake driver\u2019s licenses in the names of identity theft victims at the time of his arrest.\u00a0 He was charged by federal criminal complaint on November 26, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Bailey pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft, an offense that carries a mandatory term of imprisonment of two years.\u00a0 He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 9.<\/p>\n<p>Bailey is released on a $25,000 bond pending sentencing.<\/p>\n<p>This investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.\u00a0 The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel George.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/j495.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-33705\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/j495-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/j495-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/j495-30x30.jpg 30w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>9\/15\/25 &#8211; David X.
