{"id":37957,"date":"2025-05-30T08:30:49","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T13:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=37957"},"modified":"2025-05-30T08:30:49","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T13:30:49","slug":"west-virginia-mail-handler-sentenced-for-dumping-mail-stealing-over-2000-in-cards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2025\/05\/30\/west-virginia-mail-handler-sentenced-for-dumping-mail-stealing-over-2000-in-cards\/","title":{"rendered":"West Virginia Mail Handler Sentenced for Dumping Mail, Stealing Over $2,000 in Cards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHARLESTON, W.Va. \u2013 5\/29\/25 &#8211; Brice Allen Pomeroy, 26, of Hernshaw, was sentenced today to two years of federal probation and ordered to pay $2,051.21 in restitution for obstruction of mail.<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents and statements made in court, on May 11, 2023, Pomeroy knowingly and willfully threw away approximately 227 pieces of mail by depositing a large plastic bad containing the mail pieces into a trash can located outside a gas service station in Charleston.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the offense, Pomeroy was employed by a United States Postal Service vendor as a mail handler at the vendor\u2019s facility in Charleston. The 227 pieces of mail included Mother\u2019s Day, graduation, anniversary, and birthday cards. Any cash or gift cards that had been in the mail pieces was removed by the time they were discarded at the service station. Over $2,000 in cash or gift cards was reported stolen.<\/p>\n<p>Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.<\/p>\n<p>United States District Judge Irene C. Berger imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan T.
