{"id":37847,"date":"2025-05-09T11:43:26","date_gmt":"2025-05-09T16:43:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=37847"},"modified":"2025-05-09T11:43:26","modified_gmt":"2025-05-09T16:43:26","slug":"department-of-labor-files-suit-alleging-usps-wrongfully-fired-texas-worker-for-reporting-work-related-injury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2025\/05\/09\/department-of-labor-files-suit-alleging-usps-wrongfully-fired-texas-worker-for-reporting-work-related-injury\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of Labor files suit alleging USPS wrongfully fired Texas worker for reporting work-related injury"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field--name-field-press-sub-header field--type-string field--label-hidden clearfix\"><em><strong>Lawsuit alleges USPS violated federal whistleblower protections<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-press-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden clearfix\">\n<p><a><strong>CALDWELL, TX<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013<\/a>\u00a0The U.S. Department of Labor has filed suit against the U.S. Postal Service for wrongful termination of an employee who fell while delivering mail and reported the work-related injury.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by the department\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.osha.gov\/\">Occupational Safety and Health Administration<\/a>\u00a0found the USPS violated the whistleblower provisions of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whistleblowers.gov\/statutes\/oshact\">Occupational Safety and Health Act<\/a>\u00a0by firing the worker on<br \/>\nFeb. 27, 2024, 10 days after the injury was reported.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/sites\/dolgov\/files\/OPA\/newsreleases\/2025\/05\/OSHA20250435.pdf\">The department\u2019s suit,<\/a>\u00a0filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, asks the court to hold USPS liable for illegal retaliation and require payment of back wages and damages.<\/p>\n<p>OSHA\u2019s Whistleblower Protection Program enforces the whistleblower provisions of 25 whistleblower statutes protecting employees from retaliation for reporting violations of workplace airline, anti-money laundering, commercial motor carrier, consumer product, criminal antitrust, environmental, financial reform, food safety, health insurance reform, maritime, motor vehicle safety, nuclear, pipeline, public transportation agency, railroad, safety and health, securities and tax laws.
