The Postal Inspector delivered 2 packages containing 5 lbs. of marijuana to the intended residence. After a while, a van transporting two vulnerable adults pulled up and an occupant of the van got out and then placed the packages in the van. Agents stopped the van in the driveway and took control of the packages. After an on scene investigation, it was determined that two women who worked for a Jackson, Tn. group home and two residents of the home were inside. The packages of drugs were literally at the feet of one of the vulnerable passengers. It was further determined that one of the workers had came to her relative’s house to retrieve the packages while “taking the residents out for a ride in the country.”

One woman was arrested and is being charged with: 1 count – Possession of schedule VI drugs with intent to sell and 2 counts – Neglect of a vulnerable adult. She is currently being held in the Haywood County Jail pending arraignment.

Drug Task Force Director Johnie Carter said, “I’ve been working drugs for 26 years and I quit saying I’ve seen it all after the first year.” He further added that children and vulnerable adults are often victims, oftentimes without a voice of their own, when someone who is responsible for their care gets into the drug scene. Both vulnerable adults were released to a caregiver supervisor who was dispatched to the scene.

The Office of the District Attorney General, 28th Judicial District, Frederick Agee was consulted on charges from the scene and is prosecuting this case.

8/12/24 – Agents with the 28th District out of Brownsville working in partnership with the U.S. Postal Inspector’s Service, the D.E.A., T.B.I. and Brownsville Police Department conducted a joint operation in Haywood Co. near exit 66 this morning.
