Jack Bergman sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy outlining his grave concerns with proposed changes to the Iron Mountain Processing &amp; Distribution Center (P&amp;DC).<\/p>\n<p><b>The letter stated in part,\u00a0<\/b><i>\u201cWhile I am pleased to see that USPS intends to keep the Iron Mountain facility open, albeit in an updated capacity, I urge the agency to avoid any actions and oppose any changes that would negatively impact local mail operations and services in Michigan\u2019s Upper Peninsula.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/i><i>\u201cThe Iron Mountain facility serves as a lifeline for thousands of Yoopers \u2013 many of whom are seniors or service-disabled Veterans living in rural and remote areas. These vulnerable communities depend on the timely delivery of their mail, federal benefits, and medications, and disruptions in the receipt of these necessities would be catastrophic. As USPS moves toward a final decision on the future of the Iron Mountain facility, I respectfully request that the agency give the above concerns \u2013 along with those expressed during the upcoming public input meeting \u2013 its full and fair consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/i><b>Background:<\/p>\n<p><\/b>Rep. Jack Bergman has been a strong proponent of reforming the USPS, while ensuring that operations \u2013 specifically in rural and remote areas in the First District \u2013 stay functional.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Rep. Bergman voted in favor of\u00a0<b>H.R. 3076,\u00a0<i>the Postal Service Reform Act.<\/p>\n<p><\/i><\/b>This package of bipartisan postal reform measures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Removed the USPS retirement health care prepay requirement.<\/li>\n<li>Enrolled postal retirees in Medicare; and<\/li>\n<li>Improved transparency in the operations of the postal service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This legislation passed the House in February of 2022, and was signed into law in April of 2022.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Congressman-Jack-Bergman.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-35022 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Congressman-Jack-Bergman-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Congressman-Jack-Bergman-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Congressman-Jack-Bergman-123x70.jpg 123w, https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Congressman-Jack-Bergman.jpg 495w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Iron Mountain \u2013 2\/5\/24 &#8211; Last week, Rep.
