{"id":31173,"date":"2021-09-30T07:54:06","date_gmt":"2021-09-30T12:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=31173"},"modified":"2021-09-30T07:54:06","modified_gmt":"2021-09-30T12:54:06","slug":"seven-former-illinois-postal-service-employees-charged-in-federal-probe-of-credit-cards-stolen-from-the-mail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2021\/09\/30\/seven-former-illinois-postal-service-employees-charged-in-federal-probe-of-credit-cards-stolen-from-the-mail\/","title":{"rendered":"Seven Former Illinois Postal Service Employees Charged in Federal Probe of Credit Cards Stolen From the Mail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rtejustify\">CHICAGO \u2014 9\/29\/21 &#8211; Seven former U.S. Postal Service employees in the Chicago area have been charged with participating in schemes to steal credit cards and other financial instruments from the mail.\u00a0 The indictments are the latest charges in \u201cOperation Cash on Delivery,\u201d a federal investigation that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ndil\/pr\/former-postal-service-employees-among-eleven-individuals-charged-conspiracy-steal\">previously resulted<\/a>\u00a0in conspiracy charges against several other former USPS employees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Indictments unsealed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Chicago allege that credit cards and other financial instruments were stolen from the mail and provided to others in exchange for cash or other items.\u00a0 Some of the defendants unlawfully obtained USPS customers\u2019 personal identifying information, including dates of birth and Social Security numbers, which was then used to fraudulently activate the stolen cards, the charges allege.\u00a0 The newly charged USPS employees delivered mail in Chicago or processed and sorted the mail at a USPS facility in suburban Palatine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Many of the new defendants were arrested Tuesday and have begun making initial appearances in federal court in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The indictments and arrests were announced by John R.
