{"id":30829,"date":"2021-07-06T11:16:59","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T16:16:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=30829"},"modified":"2021-07-06T11:16:59","modified_gmt":"2021-07-06T16:16:59","slug":"usps-postal-police-say-they-have-been-confined-to-postal-property-instead-of-helping-stop-crimes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2021\/07\/06\/usps-postal-police-say-they-have-been-confined-to-postal-property-instead-of-helping-stop-crimes\/","title":{"rendered":"USPS postal police say they have been confined to postal property instead of helping stop crimes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/abc13.com\/video\/embed\/?pid=10863079\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) &#8212; 7\/5\/21 &#8211; A group that feels they could make a dent in the mail theft problem said they are not being allowed to.<\/p>\n<p>Frank Albergo, president of the Postal Police Officer&#8217;s Association, said officers have been sidelined by USPS since August 2020.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Essentially, the postal service defunded the postal police force,&#8221; Albergo said.<\/p>\n<p>He said he has not gotten a straight answer why but said it came not long after the union secured a raise for the officers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now we are confined to postal property,&#8221; Albergo said. &#8220;It makes absolutely no sense.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said for years officers were out on the streets. Albergo said they acted like street cops would in other law enforcement agencies. Postal inspectors acted as the detectives.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Albergo said they are doing foot patrols at the post offices, which he said is important, but is not where the majority of the crime is happening.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Carriers are being assaulted at an alarming rate,&#8221; Albergo said. &#8220;Trucks are being broken into. Mail is being stolen out of blue collection boxes. Packages are being stolen off of people&#8217;s doorsteps and the response was, &#8216;Hey, we don&#8217;t want postal police out on the street anymore.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"adRectangle-pos-small-inline\" data-set=\"adAppend\">\n<div class=\"placeholderWrapper adRectangle-pos-small-inline\">\n<div class=\"withLazyLoading\">&#8220;It&#8217;s a shame, because you know who is suffering the most?
