The purpose of the Reply Rides Free program is to slow the diversion of bills, invoices and statements to electronic channels and instead grow or retain reply mail.<\/p>\n<p>Effective Sept. 6, 2011, the Postal Service revised the Mailing Standards \u2014 Domestic Mail Manual, 233.7 \u2014 to allow First-Class Mail automation letters weighing over one ounce, but no more than two ounces, to be eligible for the Reply Rides Free incentive program. Program users can now send two ounces of mail for the price of one.<\/p>\n<p>The 2nd Ounce\/Reply Rides Free program extension is designed to encourage more mailers to participate in this incentive and authorize current participants to increase the weight of their First-Class Mail letters to include more content. In addition to making the Reply Rides Free Program less complicated to implement, this revision is designed to both increase the value of First-Class Mail and keep it as the preferred channel for business communication.<\/p>\n<p>To participate in this program, mailers must enclose a Business Reply Mail or Courtesy Reply Mail card\/envelope, or use a reusable envelope and meet predetermined volume thresholds. The program runs Jan. 2\u2013Dec. 31, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>USPS plans to petition the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) for permission to incorporate a \u201cFree 2nd Ounce\u201d rate as a permanent price point for automation\/presort letters in January 2012.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reply Rides Free is an incentive program that offers eligible companies a postage credit for First-Class Mail automation letters that contain a Business Reply Mail or Courtesy Reply Mail envelope or card.
