Instead, the employee should knock on the customer\u2019s door, avoiding areas that may be frequently touched.<\/p>\n<p>When the customer opens the door, the employee must perform the following steps while wearing a face covering and maintaining 6 feet of distance:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Request the customer\u2019s first initial and last name.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Using the MDD, scan the mailpiece barcode, select \u201cDelivered\u201d and answer the prompted questions.\u00a0Enter the customer\u2019s first initial and last name when prompted.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 When prompted for the customer to sign the MDD\u2019s screen, the employee should instead print his or her own initials (not a signature), route number and notate C19.<\/p>\n<p>For Return Receipts and other hard-copy items, employees must:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Enter the customer\u2019s first initial and last name in the form\u2019s \u201cSignature\u201d box.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 For forms 3811 and 3849, employees should print their own initials (not a signature), route number and notate C19 in the \u201cReceived by\u201d or \u201cPrinted Name\u201d section, depending on the form.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 For Form 3849, scan the completed form following the normal process to finalize the delivery.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, employees should politely ask the customer to step back a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flink.usps.com%2F2020%2F03%2F27%2Fsign-of-the-times-3%2F&amp;data=04%7C01%7CKathleen.F.Howard%40usps.gov%7C1a17084876c24c6413a108d880035a37%7Cf9aa5788eb334a498ad076101910cac3%7C0%7C0%7C637400099166576815%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&amp;sdata=LXNov3Mm3allJOkmbtmGuWBnsw%2BVBcoCL3ek1ToWwfQ%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>safe distance<\/em><\/a>\u00a0or close the screen door while they leave the item in the mail receptacle or by the customer\u2019s door.<\/p>\n<p>If no one answers the door, employees should follow the normal notice-left process.<\/p>\n<p>Employees should always follow other preventative measures such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flink.usps.com%2F2020%2F03%2F18%2Feasy-as-1-2-3-2%2F&amp;data=04%7C01%7CKathleen.F.Howard%40usps.gov%7C1a17084876c24c6413a108d880035a37%7Cf9aa5788eb334a498ad076101910cac3%7C0%7C0%7C637400099166576815%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&amp;sdata=qLTXHZXLuqOW8xdRqacVLrTi549aHxDTk9%2FRR5tQOm0%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>proper handwashing<\/em><\/a>, and maintaining social distancing whenever possible.<\/p>\n<p>The Postal Service recently distributed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fblue.usps.gov%2Fblue%2Fpdf%2Fcovid-19%2Fcovid-19-sut-51-retail-and-delivery-customer-signature-service.pdf&amp;data=04%7C01%7CKathleen.F.Howard%40usps.gov%7C1a17084876c24c6413a108d880035a37%7Cf9aa5788eb334a498ad076101910cac3%7C0%7C0%7C637400099166586766%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&amp;sdata=%2B7u081BKpLYSfo8lKJ6ZIw6eqNKXNN%2F6NA4%2F8a%2BgyLo%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>a stand-up talk<\/em><\/a>\u00a0with the updated information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>USPS News Link &#8211; 11\/03\/20 &#8211; The Postal Service is reminding employees that new social distancing procedures have been implemented to help protect workers who deliver mail during the coronavirus pandemic.
