Carolyn Maloney had narrowly defeated<\/a>\u00a0her primary challenger, Suraj Patel.\u00a0 <strong>The reason<\/strong>: because of <strong>COVID-19, the U.S. Postal Service was overwhelmed by the staggering, unprecedented number of mail-in ballots<\/strong> and struggled to process them.\u00a0 The system simply isn\u2019t designed to absorb and count that many absentee ballots in a matter of days, or even two weeks. Patel sued, citing USPS failures, tens of thousands of disqualified mail-in ballots, and rejected standard absentee ballots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">This dispute, incidentally, exclusively involved Democrats. But will what occurred in New York soon transpire, nationwide?<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Many Americans seemingly believe that any dispute regarding the outcome of the coming presidential election will be settled by the courts, not unlike the controversial 2000 presidential election.\u00a0But the Bush-Gore debacle was mild\u00a0compared with\u00a0what might materialize\u00a0if a skirmish centers around the electoral votes of one state (say, Pennsylvania, Michigan, or Wisconsin), or two\u00a0or three such states, with ballot eligibility deciding victory.\u00a0For example, on Nov.\u00a03, President Donald Trump might lead in each state he carried in 2016 \u2014 worth, collectively, 306 electoral votes, and declare victory.\u00a0 <strong>However, Joe Biden could insist on awaiting the tabulation of all absentee, and mail-in ballots<\/strong>.
