It\u2019s important to remember to stay cool and safe.<\/p>\n<p>Because the coronavirus can spread between people in close proximity to each other, employees should adhere to social distancing guidelines \u2014 staying at least 6 feet apart \u2014 whenever possible.<\/p>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/link.usps.com\/2020\/04\/07\/cdcs-new-guidance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wearing cloth face coverings<\/a><\/em>\u00a0in public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.<\/p>\n<p>Employees who experience difficulty breathing or discomfort as a result of the heat while wearing a face covering should remove the covering until the discomfort ceases.<\/p>\n<p>However, if the employee decides to remove the face covering, they should continue to practice social distancing when they come into contact with others, and sneeze or cough into their elbow or a tissue.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some tips to prevent heat-related illnesses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hydrate before, during and after work<\/li>\n<li>Dress appropriately for the weather, including wearing light-colored, loose-fitting and breathable clothing to keep your body temperature down on warm days<\/li>\n<li>When possible, use shaded areas to stay out of direct sunlight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/link.usps.com\/2019\/08\/16\/knowing-the-symptoms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">signs of heat stress<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hot, dry skin or profuse sweating<\/li>\n<li>Headache<\/li>\n<li>Confusion or dizziness<\/li>\n<li>Nausea<\/li>\n<li>Muscle cramps<\/li>\n<li>Weakness or fatigue<\/li>\n<li>Rash<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Employees who experience signs of a heat-related illness should call 911 and notify their supervisor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28412\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Coronavirus-and-USPS.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"478\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Coronavirus-and-USPS.jpg 478w, https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Coronavirus-and-USPS-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Coronavirus-and-USPS-100x52.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 478px) 100vw, 478px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the weather begins to warm up, the Postal Service is reminding employees of ways to\u00a0prevent heat-related illnesses\u00a0during the coronavirus pandemic.
