{"id":28477,"date":"2020-04-07T10:25:55","date_gmt":"2020-04-07T15:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=28477"},"modified":"2020-04-07T10:25:55","modified_gmt":"2020-04-07T15:25:55","slug":"usps-says-no-evidence-virus-spread-through-mail-packages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2020\/04\/07\/usps-says-no-evidence-virus-spread-through-mail-packages\/","title":{"rendered":"USPS Says &#8220;No evidence virus spread through mail, packages&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>USPS News Link &#8211; 4\/6\/20 &#8211; The Postal Service is sharing guidance from public health organizations and other authorities that have stated there\u2019s no evidence the coronavirus is spread through the mail.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the virus is spread through respiratory droplets, and there is currently no evidence to support the transmission of COVID-19 with package shipments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces, there is likely very low risk of spread from products or packaging that are shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient temperatures,\u201d CDC<em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/faq.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">states<\/a><\/em>\u00a0on its website.<\/p>\n<p>In a frequently asked questions\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/q-a-detail\/q-a-coronaviruses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">section<\/a><\/em>\u00a0on its website, the World Health Organization (WHO) addresses concerns about the safety of receiving packages from areas where COVID-19 has been reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe likelihood of an infected person contaminating commercial goods is low and the risk of catching the virus that causes COVID-19 from a package that has been moved, travelled, and exposed to different conditions and temperature is also low,\u201d WHO states.<\/p>\n<p>Surgeon General Jerome Adams has also weighed in. \u201cThere is no evidence right now that the coronavirus can be spread through mail,\u201d he said recently.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, during a television interview last week, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, spoke about the likelihood of the coronavirus being transmitted through things like mail and package delivery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think we need to get completely obsessed about packages that come in because those types of surfaces \u2014 the virus might live there for a very short time,\u201d Fauci said. \u201cBut people say, \u2018Should I get a package from a grocery store that says made in China?\u2019 I wouldn\u2019t worry about that.
