{"id":28210,"date":"2020-02-16T15:01:27","date_gmt":"2020-02-16T20:01:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=28210"},"modified":"2020-02-16T15:01:27","modified_gmt":"2020-02-16T20:01:27","slug":"hopefully-i-scared-him-florida-man-baits-mail-package-thief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2020\/02\/16\/hopefully-i-scared-him-florida-man-baits-mail-package-thief\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Hopefully I scared him&#8217;: Florida man baits mail package thief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 1px solid #e6e6e6;\" src=\"https:\/\/media.wtsp.com\/embeds\/video\/67-90713c40-19a9-4adb-9a14-b973a9b2d140\/iframe\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>WESTCHASE, Fla. \u2014 A neighborhood is watching out for a man they say has been stealing mail from them for months.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On January 5, when we all woke up and all of our mailboxes were open which is clearly not normal,&#8221; neighbor Brian Simmons said.<\/p>\n<p>Simmons says that was the first time he and his neighbors caught the alleged mail thief on camera.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He hit about three days later and then in the following weeks he hit a few more times,&#8221; Simmons said.<\/p>\n<p>He felt violated knowing someone was scoping out where his family lives and in some cases taking what wasn&#8217;t theirs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had several people who had W-2&#8217;s taken and one person reported they had their passport taken as well,&#8221; Simmons said.<\/p>\n<p>Simmons says police reports were filed and he adjusted his camera to catch him, but seeing whoever did this on his surveillance camera wasn&#8217;t going to be enough. Simmons knew he had to catch them in the act and immediately thought of a plan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I decided to collect a whole bunch of mail that I don&#8217;t care about and also make a bait package which was an Apple Watch box.
