In painting shapes\u2014like a tennis court, a smokestack on a tugboat, or the roof of a barn\u2014as flat planes of color, Kelly removed their dimensionality and turned reality into abstraction. He was also one of the first artists to create shaped canvases and to integrate art with modern architecture, taking great care about the size of a painting, its boundaries, and its placement in relation to the walls and floor.<\/p>\n<p>The 20 stamps on the sheet feature 10 of Kelly\u2019s artworks, each represented twice: \u201cYellow White\u201d (1961), \u201cColors for a Large Wall\u201d (1951), \u201cBlue Red Rocker\u201d (1963), \u201cSpectrum I\u201d (1953), \u201cSouth Ferry\u201d (1956), \u201cBlue Green\u201d (1962), \u201cOrange Red Relief\u201d<em>\u00a0(<\/em>for Delphine Seyrig<em>)<\/em>\u00a0(1990), \u201cMeschers\u201d (1951), \u201cRed Blue\u201d (1964), and \u201cGaza\u201d (1956).
