{"id":26078,"date":"2019-04-09T08:49:59","date_gmt":"2019-04-09T13:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=26078"},"modified":"2019-04-09T08:49:59","modified_gmt":"2019-04-09T13:49:59","slug":"one-neighbors-dogs-keeping-des-moines-block-from-receiving-mail-for-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2019\/04\/09\/one-neighbors-dogs-keeping-des-moines-block-from-receiving-mail-for-weeks\/","title":{"rendered":"One Neighbor\u2019s Dogs Keeping Des Moines Block From Receiving Mail For Weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/cdn2.trb.tv\/iframe.html?ec=5rNjhsaDE6y_ryUMYN7iyyfyRyATfvXk&amp;pbid=65279b80531146eea3c65f3510b1c4b9&amp;pcode=oycHE6T-HajMk2Hs9PsZzFdXZduU\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>DES MOINES, Iowa &#8212; One block on the east side of Des Moines hasn\u2019t been receiving mail for nearly a month, and it is all because the mail carrier feels threatened by a few dogs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat one house can destroy the whole block more or less,\u201d Daryl Bailey said.<\/p>\n<p>Bailey, a 40-year resident on the 2500 block of East Walnut Street in Des Moines, says he has never had a problem with his mail, until now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, after about a week I couldn\u2019t figure out why I wasn\u2019t getting any mail, and that\u2019s how they let me know,\u201d Bailey said.<\/p>\n<p>USPS told Bailey delivery to his block was suspended indefinitely because a mail carrier feels threatened by multiple dogs at a nearby residence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t tell you if they are vicious or if they are not vicious because I haven\u2019t had any problem with them,\u201d Bailey said.<\/p>\n<p>Channel 13 reached out to the mail delivery service and they sent a statement saying: \u201cIf a dog is on the loose, delivery for the entire neighborhood could potentially be affected. The postal service works with the homeowner and local authorities in the event of dog issues, but if the issues are not resolved or continue to occur, we have no other choice but to suspend delivery. There are three dogs in that neighborhood that have repeatedly been unrestrained and running at large while exhibiting aggressive behavior.
