{"id":25853,"date":"2019-03-08T09:19:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-08T14:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=25853"},"modified":"2019-03-08T09:19:00","modified_gmt":"2019-03-08T14:19:00","slug":"marvin-gaye-stamp-artwork-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2019\/03\/08\/marvin-gaye-stamp-artwork-revealed\/","title":{"rendered":"Marvin Gaye stamp artwork revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-thumbnail\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-twentyfourteen-full-width wp-post-image alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/link.usps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/StampMarvinGayePreview_large-story.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/link.usps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/StampMarvinGayePreview_large-story.jpg 500w, https:\/\/link.usps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/StampMarvinGayePreview_large-story-250x300.jpg 250w, https:\/\/link.usps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/StampMarvinGayePreview_large-story-71x85.jpg 71w\" alt=\"Marvin Gaye\" width=\"464\" height=\"557\" \/><\/p>\n<h6 class=\"link-caption\"><em>A portrait of Marvin Gaye, inspired by historic photographs, will appear on the reverse of the stamp pane.<\/em><\/h6>\n<\/div>\n<p>USPS News Link &#8211; 3\/7\/19 &#8211; The Postal Service has\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/about.usps.com\/newsroom\/national-releases\/2019\/0307-usps-honoring-the-prince-of-soul.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unveiled<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>additional artwork for its forthcoming Marvin Gaye stamp, part of its Music Icons series.<\/p>\n<p>Known as the \u201cPrince of Soul,\u201d Gaye (1938-1984) was one of the most influential music performers of his generation, helping to shape the Motown sound in the late 1960s and broadening the reach of R&amp;B music in the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>His 1971 expansive masterwork, \u201cWhat\u2019s Going On,\u201d is widely considered one of the greatest recordings in the history of American popular music.<\/p>\n<p>The stamp image, which USPS\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/link.usps.com\/2018\/11\/21\/coming-soon-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released in November<\/a><\/em>, features a portrait of the singer inspired by historic photographs.<\/p>\n<p>The stamp pane, revealed March 7, is designed to resemble a vintage 45-rpm record sleeve. One side of the pane includes the stamps and brief text about Gaye\u2019s legacy, with the image of a sliver of a record seeming to peek out the top of the sleeve.<\/p>\n<p>Another portrait of Gaye, also inspired by historic photographs, appears on the reverse, along with the Music Icons series logo.<\/p>\n<p>Derry Noyes, a USPS art director, worked on the stamp pane with artist Kadir Nelson.<\/p>\n<p>The stamp will be available April 2 at Post Offices and\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/store.usps.com\/store\/product\/buy-stamps\/marvin-gaye-S_586104\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">usps.com<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A portrait of Marvin Gaye, inspired by historic photographs, will appear on the reverse of the stamp pane.
