{"id":23729,"date":"2018-06-22T08:12:53","date_gmt":"2018-06-22T13:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=23729"},"modified":"2018-06-22T08:12:53","modified_gmt":"2018-06-22T13:12:53","slug":"nalcs-statement-on-ombs-proposal-to-privatize-the-postal-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2018\/06\/22\/nalcs-statement-on-ombs-proposal-to-privatize-the-postal-service\/","title":{"rendered":"NALC&#8217;s statement on OMB&#8217;s proposal to privatize the Postal Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>6\/21\/18 &#8211; NALC President Fredric Rolando criticized the Trump administration\u2019s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) proposal to privatize the United States Postal Service, which was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Government-Reform-and-Reorg-Plan.pdf\">released today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis report takes direct aim at numerous agencies including USPS under the guise of reforming and restructuring for the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0century,\u201d President Rolando said. \u201cThe\u00a0White House is making very clear that privatization of\u00a0the Postal Service\u00a0is its goal, despite the fact that the stakeholder meetings with the White House Postal Task Force are ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNALC has long been committed to working with all of the stakeholders and not one has floated the idea of privatization except private shippers, who would love nothing more than to see\u00a0the Postal Service\u00a0dismantled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNALC had high hopes in engaging with this administration and its Postal Task Force to address the underlying issues facing\u00a0the Postal Service, which stem from the 2006 mandate to pre-fund future retiree health benefits. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nalc.org\/news\/nalc-updates\/nalc-submits-postal-workforce-recommendations-to-white-house\">NALC along with the other postal employee unions provided recommendations to the Task Force<\/a>.
