WASHINGTON \u2014 The U.S. Postal Service\u2019s newest stamps acknowledge the role science, technology, engineering and mathematics play in keeping America a global leader in innovation. The STEM Education Forever stamps were dedicated today during the 2018\u00a0USA Science & Engineering Festival<\/a><\/em>\u00a0at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.<\/p>\n \u201cIn an increasingly competitive world, proficiency in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics \u2014 collectively known as STEM \u2014 is more critical than ever,\u201d said U.S. Postal Service Marketing Vice President\u00a0Steve Monteith<\/a><\/em>, who dedicated the stamps.<\/p>\n Monteith also referenced the importance of STEM in the development of Informed Delivery, one of the Postal Service\u2019s latest innovations. Informed Delivery allows customers to see a digital preview of their incoming physical mail and also allows customers to track packages and reschedule deliveries \u2014 all from the convenience of the user\u2019s computer, tablet or mobile devices.<\/p>\n \u201cInformed Delivery is one of our most exciting innovations and it\u2019s already very popular with nearly 9 million users so far,\u201d said Monteith.<\/p>\n Joining Monteith to unveil the stamps were\u00a0Marc Schulman<\/em><\/a>, Executive Director, USA Science & Engineering Festival;\u00a0Kris Brown<\/em><\/a>, Deputy Associate Administrator for Education, NASA;\u00a0C. Mark Eakin, Ph.D.<\/em><\/a>, Coordinator of Coral Reef Watch, NOAA;\u00a0Kavya Kopparapu<\/em><\/a>, Finalist, Regeneron Science Talent Search; and\u00a0Courtney Pine<\/em><\/a>, Kid Reporter, Scholastic News Kids Press Corps.\u00a0Danni Washington<\/em><\/a>, USA Science & Engineering Festival served as the ceremony\u2019s emcee.<\/p>\n The stamp comes in pane of 20, including four different designs, one for each of the four STEM disciplines.<\/p>\n Designed to pique the curiosity of the viewer, each stamp features a collage of faces, symbols, drawings and numbers that represent the complexity and interconnectedness of STEM. Artist David Plunkert worked with art director Antonio Alcal\u00e1 to create these stamps. There is no charge for postmarks up to a quantity of 50. For more than 50, customers are charged 5 cents each.
