{"id":1854,"date":"2011-01-05T20:48:16","date_gmt":"2011-01-06T01:48:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=1854"},"modified":"2011-01-05T20:48:16","modified_gmt":"2011-01-06T01:48:16","slug":"alabama-postal-clerk-indicted-for-stealing-mail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2011\/01\/05\/alabama-postal-clerk-indicted-for-stealing-mail\/","title":{"rendered":"Alabama Postal Clerk Indicted For Stealing Mail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Postal-Fraud-and-Theft1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1855\" title=\"Postal Fraud and Theft\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Postal-Fraud-and-Theft1-150x150.gif\" alt=\"Postal Fraud and Theft\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>BIRMINGHAM &#8211; A federal grand jury today indicted a Madison man for stealing mail while he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, announced U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and Postal Inspection Service Inspector\/Domicile Coordinator Frank Dyer.<\/p>\n<p>The one-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court charges MARK SHAWN STACY, 41, with stealing letters and packages entrusted to him to deliver while he worked as a mail clerk at the Huntsville Downtown Post Office between Feb. 1 and Feb. 15, 2010.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ability to safely and efficiently deliver products and correspondence through the Postal system is fundamental to our economy and way of life,\u201d Vance said. \u201cThe United States Postal Service has been entrusted with this vital task, and when a Postal employee violates that trust, it must be met with appropriate sanctions. Americans rely on the integrity of the mail system. That integrity must be maintained,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The maximum sentence for Theft of Mail Matter by a Postal Employee is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p>Special agents with the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General investigated the matter. Assistant U.S. Attorney Terence M. O\u2019Rourke is prosecuting the case.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only charges.
