If you\u2019re expecting checks, credit cards or similar items, ask a trusted friend to pick up your mail.<\/li>\n<li><b><strong>Never mail cash.<\/strong><\/b><\/li>\n<li><strong>If you move, tell USPS.<\/strong><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0Immediately<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/moversguide.usps.com\/icoa\/home\/icoa-main-flow.do?execution=e1s1&amp;_flowId=icoa-main-flow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>notify your Post Office<\/em><\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>when you change your address.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Start a neighborhood watch program.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>By exchanging work and vacation schedules with trusted neighbors, you can watch one another\u2019s mailboxes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Know the rules.<\/strong><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Consult with your Post Office for current regulations on<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/link.usps.com\/2016\/06\/28\/bigger-and-better\/\"><em>mailboxes<\/em><\/a>, including the availability of locked, centralized and curbside mailboxes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Vigilance is essential to combating mail-related crimes, according to Postal Inspector JerVay Rodgers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t do the job alone,\u201d she said. \u201cYou can be a target, but you don\u2019t have to be a victim.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Customers who believe they\u2019re victims of mail theft should call the Inspection Service at 877-876-2455 or file an<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/postalinspectors.uspis.gov\/investigations\/MailFraud\/fraudschemes\/mailtheft\/ReportMailTheft.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><em>online mail theft report<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stop, thieves!
