{"id":15534,"date":"2016-07-12T18:40:23","date_gmt":"2016-07-12T23:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=15534"},"modified":"2016-07-13T12:20:59","modified_gmt":"2016-07-13T17:20:59","slug":"nalc-statement-on-house-postal-service-reform-act-of-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2016\/07\/12\/nalc-statement-on-house-postal-service-reform-act-of-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"NALC statement on House Postal Service Reform Act of 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NALC News &#8211; 7\/12\/16 &#8211; The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on July 12 advanced the Postal Service Reform Act of 2016 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/114th-congress\/house-bill\/5714\">H.R. 5714<\/a>), a bipartisan bill introduced by leaders of the committee.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a statement from National Association of Letter Carriers President Fredric Rolando in response to the legislation:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">While this legislation is not perfect and contains unacceptable reductions in door delivery, NALC appreciates the committee\u2019s dedication to working together and with stakeholders in a bipartisan manner to restore financial stability to this vitally important agency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Today\u2019s committee action on this House bill is step one in a very long process for Congress. As the bill is currently drafted, we would oppose its final passage. But there will be plenty of opportunity to address the deficiencies in this bill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">In particular, we believe that stakeholders will come to see how detrimental the door delivery cuts contained in the bill would be for this agency and for businesses around the country that depend on a strong Postal Service network.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">In fact, more than 200 House members agree with us, having co-sponsored a bipartisan House resolution (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nalc.org\/news\/nalc-updates\/body\/2015-door-delivery-fact-sheet.pdf\">H.
