This marks the fourth year in a row the USPS is in the black \u2013 excluding the mandate that requires the agency to pre-fund healthcare benefits for future retirees.<\/p>\n<p>The Postal Service has enjoyed an operating profit totaling $4.4 billion since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2014 \u2013 without a dime of taxpayers\u2019 money.<\/p>\n<p>In the second quarter of Fiscal Year 2016 (January through March), shipping and packaging volume increased by 11.4 percent over the same period last year. Total mail volume increased by 1.4 percent, over the same time as last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, these results show that it\u2019s time to broaden the services we provide, not scale them back,\u201d said APWU President Mark Dimondstein.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last\">\u201cIn order for USPS to continue on this path, Congress must pass postal reform legislation that eliminates the sham retiree pre-funding mandate that financially strangles our public Postal Service,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7249\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-APWU-small.gif\" alt=\"1aa-APWU-small\" width=\"295\" height=\"182\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>05\/11\/2016\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0The Postal Service earned $1.83 billion in operating profits in the first half of Fiscal Year 2016, according to\u00a0financial results\u00a0released on May 10.
