Loeffler announced that an Anchorage man pled guilty yesterday in federal court to mail theft and credit card fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Evan Mullen, 28, of Anchorage, pled guilty in front of U.S. District Judge Sharon L. Gleason. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11175\" style=\"border: none;\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Dept-of-Justice-Large-300x216.jpg\" alt=\"Dept of Justice Large\" width=\"300\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Dept-of-Justice-Large-300x216.jpg 300w, https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Dept-of-Justice-Large.jpg 459w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Aunnie Steward, who prosecuted the case, Mullen pled guilty to the following facts:\u00a0 Starting in December 2015, Mullen stole mail from mailboxes of residents living in an Anchorage Hillside neighborhood.\u00a0 Mullen was specifically looking for credit cards, but Mullen also stole packages from these mailboxes.\u00a0 Mullen took the stolen credit cards and purchased gift cards and merchandise.\u00a0 Mullen continued this conduct up until the day before his arrest in February 2016.\u00a0 There were more than 10 victims of Mullen\u2019s crimes including those who had their mail stolen and banks who absorbed the loss from the stolen credit cards.\u00a0 Mullen used the stolen credit cards to obtain and attempt to obtain approximately $10,000 in cash and merchandise. \u00a0Mullen has agreed to pay full restitution.<\/p>\n<p>Mullen faces a maximum of fifteen years in prison and a $250,000 fine. \u00a0Sentencing is scheduled for July 21, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPostal Inspectors worked closely with the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office, Anchorage Police Department, and proactive citizens to swiftly handle the reported\u00a0mail theft\u00a0on Hillside,\u201d said Seattle Division Inspector in Charge Anthony Galetti of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.\u00a0 \u201cWe take\u00a0mail theft and\u00a0identity theft very seriously and will continue working\u00a0aggressively to investigate these crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Attorney Loeffler commends the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Anchorage Police Department for the investigation of this case.\u00a0 Neighborhood residents assisted in the investigation, providing tips and information helpful to identifying Mullen as the thief.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player Video courtesy of KTUU Anchorage, Alaska \u2013 U.S. Attorney Karen L.
