The stickers bear the slogan, \u201cOpening Day \u2013 Fighting for Justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Union members will receive two stickers in the mail \u2013 one for themselves and one to share with a co-worker. Local and state presidents will receive some extra stickers too.<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.apwu.org\/sites\/apwu\/files\/content-images\/Sticker%20-%20Opening%20Day%20of%20Arb%20copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"275\" \/><br \/>\nTo show solidarity, union members will wear<br \/>\nstickers on the opening day of arbitration.<br \/>\nStickers are being mailed to members\u2019 homes.<\/h6>\n<p>In arbitration, the APWU seeks to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Win fair wage increases;<\/li>\n<li>Protect cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs);<\/li>\n<li>Defend the no-layoff clause;<\/li>\n<li>Win improvements for Postal Support Employees (PSEs) and Part-Time Flexibles;<\/li>\n<li>Secure more career jobs;<\/li>\n<li>Redefine \u201cfull-time\u201d so that it once again guarantees a 40-hour work week;<\/li>\n<li>Limit subcontracting, and<\/li>\n<li class=\"last\">Win better service for our customers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Management wants to gut the COLA for current workers and is seeking a new tier in the career workforce that would earn no COLAs; have virtually no protection against layoffs, and earn less annual leave and sick leave than current employees.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the complex nature of the case, the hearings are expected to take numerous sessions, which will be scheduled based on the arbitrator\u2019s availability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fighting for Justice<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been preparing for the possibility of arbitration for more than a year \u2013 even before negotiations got started,\u201d said President Mark Dimondstein. \u201cWe\u2019re ready for the challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re fighting for justice \u2013 for a strong Postal Service for generations to come and economic justice for postal workers and retirees, today and in the future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we enter the last stage of our contract battle, I urge all union members to show solidarity by wearing the \u2018Fighting for Justice\u2019 stickers.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>APWU news &#8211; 01\/22\/2016\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0APWU members across the country will mark Feb. 17 \u2013 the opening day of arbitration for a new contract \u2013 with a show of solidarity.
