This up-to-the-minute information is fed to the My USPS.com application, allowing customers to track individual packages as they move through the postal network.<\/p>\n<p>About 263,000 MDDs have been deployed to more than 19,000 facilities. Deployment occurred in two phases, beginning in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese devices were deployed quicker than anticipated thanks to the collaboration of our dedicated employees and suppliers,\u201d said Engineering Systems VP Michael Amato. \u201cThe MDDs will reduce the time from delivery scan to customer notification and will improve our real-time scanning capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new devices offer real-time scanning and GPS data, so carriers no longer need to carry both scanners and cell phones. The on-screen signature capability frees carriers from the task of filling out paper delivery receipts, improving efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>MDDs also are part of the Postal Service\u2019s<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/link.usps.com\/2015\/08\/20\/information-age\/\"><em>broader effort<\/em><\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>to provide employees with<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/link.usps.com\/2015\/05\/01\/investing-in-usps\/\"><em>tools<\/em><\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>to help them perform their jobs more effectively.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fully mobile USPS completes Mobile Delivery Devices deployment USPS News Link 10\/06\/15 USPS has deployed about 263,000 MDDs nationwide since 2014.
