{"id":11024,"date":"2015-05-21T16:12:39","date_gmt":"2015-05-21T21:12:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=11024"},"modified":"2015-05-21T16:12:39","modified_gmt":"2015-05-21T21:12:39","slug":"vehicle-upgrades-a-crucial-investment-cfo-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2015\/05\/21\/vehicle-upgrades-a-crucial-investment-cfo-says\/","title":{"rendered":"Vehicle upgrades a crucial investment, CFO says"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Moving into the future<\/h1>\n<h2>Vehicle upgrades a crucial investment, CFO says<\/h2>\n<p><time class=\"pubdate\" datetime=\"2015-05-21T19:23:00.000Z\">USPS News Link &#8211;\u00a05\/21\/15<\/time><\/p>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/liteblue.usps.gov\/news\/link\/2015\/05may\/images\/news22s2.jpg\" alt=\"LLV fleet\" width=\"220\" \/><\/div>\n<h6>The Postal Service plans to upgrade its<br \/>\ndelivery vehicle fleet.<\/h6>\n<p>Replacing the Postal Service\u2019s delivery fleet is necessary to the organization\u2019s future, Chief Financial Officer Joe Corbett told a congressional panel May 21.<\/p>\n<p>New vehicles will ensure USPS is able to fulfill its obligation to provide prompt, reliable and efficient services for the nation, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn order to effectively meet the needs of our customers and employees, the Postal Service must invest in and maintain its existing infrastructure, and our delivery fleet is a critical component,\u201d Corbett said.<\/p>\n<p>The CFO testified before the House Government Operations Subcommittee, which oversees postal matters.<\/p>\n<p>USPS wants to secure new right-hand drive vehicles to \u201caccommodate a diverse mail mix, enhance safety, improve service, reduce emissions and produce savings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The current fleet has about 210,000 vehicles. These include Long Life Vehicles (LLVs), which had a \u201cplanned useful life\u201d of approximately 24 years when USPS acquired them.<\/p>\n<p>The operational efficiency, safety and technology are very outdated, Corbett said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur current delivery vehicles are rapidly nearing the end of their useful life and it is now time to move into the future with a new generation of vehicles that will better serve customers, employees and the American public,\u201d Corbett said.<\/p>\n<p>The CFO\u2019s testimony will be posted to the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em><a href=\"http:\/\/about.usps.com\/news\/testimony-speeches\/welcome.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Newsroom site<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Moving into the future Vehicle upgrades a crucial investment, CFO says USPS News Link &#8211;\u00a05\/21\/15 The Postal Service plans to upgrade its delivery vehicle fleet.
