{"id":10446,"date":"2015-03-26T07:38:14","date_gmt":"2015-03-26T12:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=10446"},"modified":"2015-03-26T07:38:14","modified_gmt":"2015-03-26T12:38:14","slug":"nalc-1-4-billion-postal-service-operating-profit-for-first-five-months-of-fy-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2015\/03\/26\/nalc-1-4-billion-postal-service-operating-profit-for-first-five-months-of-fy-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"NALC: $1.4 billion Postal Service operating profit for first five months of FY 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"meta\">\n<h2>$1.4 billion Postal Service operating profit for first five months of FY 2015 (greater than operating profit for full FY 2014)<\/h2>\n<p><small><time datetime=\"2015-03-25\">NALC News &#8211; Mar 25, 2015<\/time><\/small><\/div>\n<div class=\"text\">\n<p>The Postal Service\u2019s financial results for the month of February 2015 were posted today on the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prc.gov\/docs\/91\/91828\/2015.3.24%20February%20FY2015%20PRC%20Report--final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Postal Regulatory Commission\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For the fiscal year so far (October 2014-February 2015), the Postal Service has a $1.401 billion operating profit (see \u2018Controllable Operating Income (Loss)\u2019 line in the report linked<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prc.gov\/docs\/91\/91828\/2015.3.24%20February%20FY2015%20PRC%20Report--final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>). This result, for the first 5 months of this fiscal year, exceeds the $1.374 billion operating profit for the entire fiscal 2014 year (see pg. 14 of the 2014 10-K attached<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/about.usps.com\/who-we-are\/financials\/10k-reports\/fy2014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Through February, total mail volume is up 0.5 percent and total mail revenue is up 3 percent compared to the same time last year. First-Class Mail revenue is up 3 percent, and First-Class Mail volume is down only -0.7 percent compared to last year. Standard Mail revenue is up 4.5 percent and Standard Mail volume is up 1.4 percent compared to last year. Shipping &amp; Package revenue is up 8.5 percent and volume is up 12 percent compared to last year.<\/p>\n<p>For the month of February 2015, the Postal Service had a $76 million operating profit, down slightly from the results for the same month last year, but a higher result than planned.<\/p>\n<p>With one month left to go in the fiscal second quarter, the Postal Service\u2019s 2Q 2015 results are looking good.
