CORALVILLE, IA (CBS 2\/FOX 28)\u2014A Coralville mail carrier is thankful for the help of several people who came to the rescue as her truck caught fire.<\/p>\n
Cindy Payne has been working for the United States Postal Service for 20 years. She said she hasn\u2019t seen anything like this: all that is left is a melted mailbox, some burnt grass and charred pavement.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was really nice weather out, had the windows down and coming down this street, going box to box,\u201d Payne said.<\/p>\n
Payne then started to smell smoke and looked out her window to see smoke coming from the hood of her truck.<\/p>\n
\u201cA couple houses down he has a cooker and stuff and I thought, \u2018oh that smells good,\u2019 went a couple more boxes and realized it was me smoking,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She said she turned her truck off and got out to find her hood engulfed in flames, so she did the first thing that came to mind, \u201cgrab the mail and protect the mail,\u201d she said. More<\/a><\/p>\n
