I worked for the postal service and clearly most of the people who work there failed in education or skill after high school. The system is designed for sub-standard work performance. Management is very unprofessional. System are clearly broke and antiquated. I left after ten years because of the lack of production and concern both by management and the union. Maybe the solution would be to sell whole or parts of the USPS.

If that is what you think about custodians, then you are obviously an uneducated idiot! They do a lot more than sweep floors. Many of them also have gone to a year or more in various technical programs to be trained. And the one is our post office is busy constantly, doing all kinds of things. Maybe you have a person in your office who is lazy but I know a lot of lazy technicians and similar employees, too. So get ready to go to school if you want to be a custodian! You might learn something.

I have 36 years in the usps. I am an Electronic Technician and have been considering retirement. My plan was to go to school and do something different_ like Nursing. We do have serious problems- nepotism, racism, favoritism and lots of just plain dumb people in charge. Our unions are a great part of the problem too. -- We pay our custodians 25.00 per hour to sweep the floor!!! I am grateful ffor the 30.00 I get for maintaining massive computer controlled systems and networks used to sort the mail. I have spent at least 7 years in school to learn this. A custodian can be trained in 5 minutes. My plan to become a Nurse has been shot down because I have discovered just how poorly we (Electronic technicians) are paid. I have found several very good jobs doing the same thing I do for the USPS that pay nearly double my Postal Pay. I guess I will just stay in the maintenance field when I retire and not have to go without work for 2 years. I am only 56 and I want to work for a while longer. The USPS is just not that great unless you just want to be a custodian. BTW- they can sit in the breakroom all day and management can't do anything about it. I cannot and would not.

There are many things the general public are unaware of, including that the U. S. Postal Service is the only Government entity that is not subsidized by taxpayers’ funds- it is required to run off the funds generated by postal stamps, services, and products. The extreme demand put on U. S. Postal Employees is so overwhelming with long hours, huge schemes of addresses to memorize that are frequently updated and/or changed, and stressful atmosphere caused by managements desire to seemingly cause pain and suffering among its employees is proof that the U. S. Government has for some time now wanted to put the Postal Service out of business so that it is no longer the burden of the U. S. Government. The public is unaware of what is really going on and will not know what they have until it is gone. Although this is sad it may be the only way to end the misery that employees endure each day just for the pay and benefits- not worth it if you ask me. $5.00- 20.00 to mail a letter through a privatized postal system would be a rude and sad awakening for everyone, but I truly believe it is near reality.

Forget shut downs the solution for the post office survival is rather simple .They reach just about every address in the usa every day exept sunday no other company in the world does that
that has a tremendous delivery opportunity to deliver other things like for instances groceries, office supplies, flowers etc etc it would be a win win situation for the public and ofcourse the p o.It would have to be set up where the seller would deliver the item to the po and the p o would deliver it for a fee.
