Dog Bites Carrier Near Eye

SPRINGFIELD -- A mail carrier is recovering after a vicious dog bite on Thursday morning. Gary Bloom was bitten just above his right eye while delivering mail in the 2700 block of West Olive Street. Bloom received several stitches.

USPS Is as Good As (If Not Better Than) The UK Royal Mail

When blogger Ron Pristas read the story about the UK Royal Mail delivering a letter with only a map, he decided to put the US Postal Service to the test. And when he got the letter back as undeliverable, he did not give up but tried mailing it again from a different facility. Ron's persistence paid off! The envelope is now in the hands of its intended recipient.

Brian Smith, a postal carrier in Fort Collins, CO walks his route Friday. Despite delays because of back-to-back storms, the post office says everyone in Fort Collins should have received mail by Wednesday. An overnight storm covered the city in about 8 inches of snow.

A pit bull was placed on quarantine at the Huntington-Cabell-Wayne Animal Control Shelter after biting a letter carrier Monday in the 200 block of 4th Street in Huntington.
Delivering After Dark
Letter carrier Ed Gracia used a headlamp to help him read addresses and navigate darkened sidewalks as he finished delivering the mail in Normal Heights, a job that routinely takes him until 8 or 9 o'clock at night. The U.S. Postal Service has an on-time deadline of 5 p.m.

The facility processes the packages and bulk mail for 10 Western states, serving the largest geographical area in the nation. Today will be the busiest day of the year for the U.S. Postal Service.
