A dozen St. Louis postal workers claim they were bullied at work

ST. LOUIS – Last week, a St. Louis mail carrier shared her story of being bullied on the job. She said a supervisor threw a key at her.

“I thought about committing suicide because it had gotten that bad,” she said.

After her story aired, 5 On Your Side got at least a dozen phone calls and e-mails from postal workers saying they’re being bullied, too. The allegations range from verbal to physical abuse.

“It is now being exposed because one brave female came forward,” one woman said.

“It reminded me of the Hollywood movement,” another woman added. “It’s like, ‘Yes, we’re having our ‘me too’ moment now at the Post Office.'”

Thursday, four USPS employees — three mail carriers and one mail clerk — came together to share their stories. They each work for different stations.

“A male supervisor told me that I was nothing,” one woman said. “‘You are nothing here. You are nothing to us.'”

“I’ve been called an idiot, that I am a horrible carrier, I am a stupid person,” another woman added.

The Postal Service’s bullying policy is clear. It says, being yelled at, receiving discipline for trivial matters, and being put down, especially in front of others, are all forms of bullying.

“I was physically pushed by a supervisor,” one woman said. “Then, I was physically pushed by a union rep.”

“There’s something called a Nutting truck,” another woman added. “I had a man run one into my shoulder.”

USPS says to take action against bullying by keeping a written account of the bullying incidents and sharing the information with a supervisor. Its policy also says to contact Human Resources. Read more at KSDK – Read PEN’s previous coverage on this topic here

  1. Working for the Post office is a living HELL! I can understand why people go postal. If they don’t like you for any reason you are black listed. You won’t have one friend in your office. The workers are no better they side with management to save their own jobs. You are all alone!

  2. I UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE TO REACH OUT TO THE UNION, AND I HAVE AT MY OFFICE. NOW THAT DOESNT STOP YOUR MANGERMENT, HE GOING TO KEEP BELITTLING YOU, TELLING YOU HOW TO AND WHEN YOU CAN TAKE YOUR BREAK.
ALSO TREATING ME LIKE I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE JOB, BECAUSE OF A MEDICAL CONDTION YOU ARE NOW FORCED TO COME IN A HOUR LATER THEN YOU ARE NORMALLY SCHULED TO WORK, ONLY NOW YOU WILL WORK YOUR FULL 8 HOUR ON THE STREET. I AM STILL LOOKING FOR HELP AT OUR OFFICE, AND I GOING TO HANG IN THERE
BUT AFTER AWHILE YOU JUST DONT CARE.

  3. These “bullies” are cowards in the outside world when they don’t have the P.O. to protect their sorry rear ends. Deep inside many of them are jealous because they couldn’t do the job they were hired to do and don’t have a work ethic. I wish I was in the St. Louis P.O., I would love to challenge these fools!!!!!

  4. there is no one you can go to if you are bullied at the United States Postal Service.
    no dignity no respect
