Video: Thieves target locked mailboxes in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – You’ve heard of porch pirates swiping your holiday packages off your front doorstep before you do. Now, there are new, more confident Christmas crooks in Colorado Springs finding ways to open locked mailboxes and steal your mail.

The Postal Inspection Service tells 11 News there were two more reports Friday in Colorado Springs. One, in the 80919 zip code. The other was in the 80910 zip code.

Postal inspectors and police are investigating after 11 News first reported similar incidents in Banning Lewis Ranch earlier this week.

The Postal Inspection Service says there has been an uptick in the number of mail thefts this year in both the Springs and Denver, but there has also been an increase in the number of holiday packages. KKTV Colorado Springs
