MILFORD, CT–June 27, 2017– Neopost USA, a provider of hardware and software solutions to mailers and shippers of all sizes, conducted an online survey of 1,345 American consumers in April to capture their opinions about the United States Postal Service®. The survey results coincide with the national celebration of National Postal Worker Day, scheduled for Saturday, July 1, this year.
Here are the key insights from the survey:
- 83 percent of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that a strong postal service is an important part of American life.
“Empirical numbers corroborate America’s opinion,” says Vincent J. DeAngelis, Neopost USA’s Vice President of Postal Relations and Shipping Product Management. “The mailing industry provides 8.4 million American jobs and is responsible for generating more than $1.3 trillion annually.
- 80.8 percent of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the United States Postal Service provides value for American businesses.
“Clearly, the majority of Americans value the USPS as a vital and necessary part of the infrastructure of the United States,” DeAngelis observes. “This response is tantamount to a national show of support for the men and woman of the Postal Service who do a tremendous job every day to help bind our nation together.”
- 75.6 percent of respondents did not know that the USPS receives no funding from taxpayers.
- 73.6 percent of respondents had mailed a letter, post card, package or parcel with the USPS within the previous month.
- 35.8 percent of respondents said a packing service would be the most desired addition to USPS services; 25.7 percent of respondents said a loyalty program.
“The USPS is so deeply ingrained in America’s history, commerce stream and quality of life that we can easily take it for granted,” says Alain Fairise, President of Neopost North America. “But we should take every available opportunity to appreciate the benefits we derive from the nation’s postal workers. National Postal Worker Day gives Americans the opportunity to honor the people inside the Postal Service who serve us on so many levels. The USPS as an institution deserves to be honored for its steadfast dedication to delivery, social responsibility, security, technology and innovation.
“More than 500,000 USPS employees do more than deliver 155 billion mail pieces – 47 percent of the world’s mail volume – per year,” Fairise says. “They also build personal relationships inside every community in the country and they help the 21st Century’s most valuable commodity – information – flow efficiently and seamlessly.”
Neopost USA is taking its fourth turn as the de facto champion of the annual National Postal Worker Day celebration. “We will be proud to recognize the men and women of the United States Postal Service on July 1 – National Postal Worker Day,” DeAngelis says. “Neopost USA’s 1,400 employees across the country invite every American to join the celebration by taking a moment to thank their local USPS mail carrier, window clerk and Postmaster next Saturday.”
