It’s a sound that has neighbors on Battin Street frustrated but not because of who is causing it. The frustration comes from what it means for their mail service.
“I never had to endure this,” Neighbor Keith Crawford said. “I’ve never had to deal with a situation like this to go to the post office to pick up my mail.”
For a little more than a month now, mailboxes on neighbors’ homes have become nothing more than decoration. That’s because Crawford said several postal carriers have expressed fear over a couple dogs in the neighborhood. That fear means USPS will no longer deliver door-to-door.
“I don’t like it. I don’t like it. It’s inconvenient you know because for me I work in the daytime and I work in the nighttime so I have to make time,” Crawford said.
Plus, several others on the block are disabled and tell FactFinder 12 they can’t physically go to the post office to get their mail. One couple said it had to get a doctors note to give to the post office to get mail delivered.
But that’s not the biggest problem for these neighbors and several others across Wichita. The problem is they said USPS isn’t communicating with them and they want to know when things will change. Read more
