Video: Albuquerque attorney says letter carrier refuses to deliver mail

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — Richard Cravens spends a good part of his professional life paying attention to deadlines. The attorney defends homeowners in foreclosure proceedings and sometimes houses can be saved or lost in the span of just a few days.

When his mail carrier stopped delivering certified and registered mail that requires a signature, Cravens spoke up. In the past year, he told KRQE News 13 that he has complained about his carrier more than a half-dozen times to the United States Postal Service. The USPS Office of the Inspector General has opened an investigation, but the carrier remains on Cravens’ postal route — and Cravens’ problem remains unsolved.

The Postal Service said in a written statement that it “will continue to monitor the situation” and make sure Cravens’ mail is delivered. A spokeswoman refused to comment further and laughed when a reporter asked whether the carrier had an issue with Cravens.

The problems began in October 2015, the attorney said, when the mail carrier — who did not identify himself to KRQE News 13 and was not identified by the Postal Service — walked into Cravens’ newly opened law office.

“He came in the door with some packages (and) threw them on our reception desk, hitting my receptionist with at least one of those packages,” Cravens said. Read more

  1. There are (2) sides to every story, the attorney is making it sound like it is all the carriers fault, that he did nothing wrong, he is the victim (get real) i have known personally that some attorneys think they are above mail carriers and talk to them like they are dirt, and they expect carriers to tolerate this. This attorney is probably saying one thing in front of the camera (being nice to make it seem like he is the victim, but behind the scenes he is probably very rude and demeaning to the carrier). I have not known a mail carrier to be personally rude to a customer on a 1st time encounter, there is more to the story then what this attorney is saying. I DO NOT believe what this attorney is saying.

  2. Unfortunately, over my 27+ years of being a professional Letter Carrier, I have seen this too many times. Some carriers need to realize that those people pay our personal bills, by purchasing, and using our services. The lack of ability of weak kneed supervisors who instead of getting the carrier to do their jobs properly, goes out and does it for him. Very sad situation. Congressman, or on up the chain of USPS.
