Video: USPS carrier pistol whipped and robbed in Northeast D.C.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service spent Sunday in the street canvassing a neighborhood in Northeast D.C. after a postal carrier was pistol whipped and robbed.

U.S. Postal Police were back at the scene in the 2000 block of 2nd Street NE searching through the grass and walking up and down the street for evidence.

The postal carrier was attacked Saturday evening as he was walking to his truck to get more mail to finish his shift.

“As soon as I laid down I started to get kicked in the head, I got pistol whipped and they went through my pockets,” the victim said, who asked ABC7 not to release his name. “I’m just trying to earn a living and support my son, it shouldn’t be like this.”

Investigators said the postal carrier was heading back to his truck when he ran into two men sitting on the sidewalk.

“One of the guys turned around, put a gun to my forehead and told me to lay down on the ground,” he said.

Only on the job a year and fearing for his life, the 28-year-old said he did as he was told. But the suspects only grew angrier when they found out he didn’t have any cash in his wallet.

“That made them mad, so they said strip him and they took my shoes and took my pants off so I was left out there with no pants and no shoes,” the victim said. Read more
