Video: Houston Carrier Appears To Pepper Spray Dogs In Security Video

HOUSTON (KTRK) — A northwest Houston family wants a mail carrier disciplined for spraying their dogs with what appears to be pepper spray even though security video shows the dogs posed no threat.

The Cruz family’s three dogs were outside last Thursday but behind a closed gate when the United States Postal Service mail carrier approached to deliver the mail.

Jose Cruz says what happened next was shocking.

His home video shows the carrier spraying the three lap dogs until they retreated. A thick metal gate separates them from the mailbox and the mail carrier.

“They’re little dogs behind the fence. They don’t deserve that. Just put the mail in and go to the next house,” said Cruz.

  1. FIRED. period. There’s no excuse for that. The dogs posed no threat. He seems to have peper sprayed them because he was annoyed, not because he felt threatened. Better be glad it wasn’t my dogs because I would have beat his a$$.

  2. The dogs were behind the fence and could not reach the mailman. He needsto be fired! Or let the dog owners spray him back in his face.

  3. He should totally be punished. If someone was pepper spraying my dog I’d never want him near my house again. Animal abuser, he must be punished

  4. There was clearly no threat to the mailman. The dogs were behind a closed fence on their yard. Doing what their supposed to do, barking at people who come on their property. I do understand that mail-persons do have an actual threat of being bitten by an animal and have the right to protect themselves, however that was clearly not the case here. He was taking out that spray ready to get them as he walked up the sidewalk. It was just malicious. I think he should be fired. Who knows how many other dogs that he has done this to. Not everyone has a camera at their front door.

  5. The Dogs posed no threat… You can’t say a dog might… These dogs did nothing to warrant that… He could have not delivered the mail if he thought he was in danger which he wasn’t. And then contact the owner… He was out of line…

Yes, he was – just mean. PEN
