African-American Postal League United for Success Celebrating 27 Years

Uniting for success – A-PLUS celebrates 27th year

The African-American Postal League United for Success (A-PLUS) recently celebrated 27 years of helping employees advance their postal careers through training, development, networking and mentoring.

The theme of the organization’s 27th Annual National Convention held in Detroit, MI, was “Honoring the Past, Treasuring the Present, Transforming the Future.”

Corporate Communications VP Bill Whitman says A-PLUS plays an invaluable role in the postal system. “You help our African-American colleagues and many other postal employees build their leadership skills, which helps them to move forward in their postal careers,” said Whitman during the event. “This fosters diversity, which inspires innovation, which leads to success. These are the things that every organization needs to thrive.”

A-PLUS, a non-profit postal association, was organized in 1987 to mentor and develop African-American and other postal managers.

  1. Racism, A plus is racism…if it wasn’t you wouldn’t be so worried about just one race and that is racism. Look in the mirror…No organization should be able to hire, promote a person on race, it should be on their ability and I have seen the postal carrier situation make so many mistakes and are so unprofessional now. It’s a sham!

  2. I see racism still resides in the workplace with these anti APLUS comments and that’s a shame in 2017.

  3. I just joined A plus!!! I’m very excited to finally be apart of such a great organization!!! Fight on!!!

  4. In my 31 years of USPS Service I have never witnessed anything like this. A-plus Affirmative Action on steroids. I have watched my beloved USPS deteriorate into a cesspool of incompetent black managers. The USPS has turned into nothing but a minority government job program. I’ve watched the reverse discrimination amplify in quantum leaps. I’ve seen programs changed to accommodate cerebrally challenged groups. I’ve witnessed the destruction of the Electronic Technician craft by dumbing down the tests. It goes on and on. The Unions and Management should be ashamed. I

I give the program an astounding ZERO score for what it’s done to the USPS. The USPS will eventually be lost due to this incompetence.

  5. I believe this is an urban organization. I am white. I have never experienced such hostility towards the color of my skin until I moved to Dallas. It was a life changing experience. I can’t believe how much I was hated and discriminated against for being fair skinned.

  6. I am amazed by a few of the comments here. My supervisor serves as the District Manager and is a member of the organization, as well as our former Area Manager. My District Marketing Manager ranks among the highest in the nation increasing revenue and production with a team that does the same. I have been shown first hand the results of her competitive nature and find some of the comments here borderline racist. This would be synonymous to saying that an entire race that inflicts hurt and racism towards another are all guilty as charged for the action of others, to judge an entire organization by your personal interpretation of the acts of a few. Management IS a critical part of the workforce. Oh, and our former Area Manager that is a part of the organization is Caucasian.

  7. Never in my life have I witnessed an organization solely responsible for the demise of an agency than this one (well, maybe the labor unions). They claim to promote diversity and equality in the management ranks of the USPS, but the sole truth is they promote the EXACT things they say they are against. The rampant and blatant cronyism this organization exhibits is appalling. I have personally witnessed the installation of a Senior Plant Manager who methodically appointed people of color to every Lead subordinate position in the district, and I have personally seen this person deny promotions based upon gender/color. All at the nod of the Area Vice President (can you guess that person’s race?). What other race is ALLOWED to have a self-promoting organization in the government sector? And PLEASE don’t tell me they stand autonomous from the Postal Service. On paper, yes. In practice, no. I’ll leave it at that.

  8. A-Plus has had the US Postal Service strangled for decades and is about to choke it to death. This agency is tragically top heavy and desperately needs to drastically reduce the management ranks. It needs to put the people who have been promoted solely because of race and/or membership in this racist organization back in to the workforce where they belong and open the door to those with education and talent in the management ranks no matter what their race is. A-Plus go away before your implosion of the US Postal Service succeeds in closing the doors.

  9. I need application for employees interested in joining A-Plus. I need to know if I can get application on line.

Sharon – PEN does not maintain the application you ask about. You would need to ask USPS for same. PEN
