Color of Change says “Congress created the U.S. Postal Service’s financial crisis, and they could end it today.”
What Is Color Of Change?
Their mission is stated as follows: “Color Of Change exists to strengthen Black America’s political voice. Our goal is to empower our members – Black Americans and our allies – to make government more responsive to the concerns of Black Americans and to bring about positive political and social change for everyone.”
Concerning the plight of USPS Color of Change released the following statement:
Congress created the U.S. Postal Service’s financial crisis, and they could end it today. The USPS is obliged by the 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (PAEA) to pre-fund its retiree health benefits 75 years into the future within a 10-year period — a burden imposed on no other government agency or private employer. Predictably, the massive required annual payments have now pushed the post office to the brink of bankruptcy.
House Republicans are jumping at the chance to put the Postal Service on the chopping block. They’re cheering the Postmaster General’s recent announcement that he plans to end Saturday mail delivery to cut costs, because this would result in dramatic workforce reductions and mail delays that make it easier to justify dismantling the entire postal system. Please join us in urging Congress to stand up for postal workers and the public by protecting six-day mail delivery, and by adopting meaningful postal reform that ends the PAEA’s unfair pre-funding requirement.
