LEANER, GREENER, FASTER, SMARTER
2010 ANNUAL SUSTAINABILITY REPORT RELEASED
The Postal Service has been a government leader in the efforts to reduce the country’s carbon footprint. The release today of the Postal Service’s 2010 Annual Sustainability Report reaffirms that position, with USPS reporting progress on nearly every front.
From reducing greenhouse gas emissions, to lowering its facility energy use, to increasing its use of alternative fuels, the Postal Service is showing the mailing industry and foreign posts that it’s possible to provide great service and be sustainable at the same time.
“Leaner, greener, faster, smarter is our sustainability call to action,” said PMG Pat Donahoe. “It’s an environmentally responsible, as well as a good business decision. It means rightsizing our delivery network and our workforce to better meet the needs of 21st century America.”
DPMG Ron Stroman acknowledges the financial benefits of working greener. “Our sustainability focus going forward is to invest our limited resources in initiatives that have timely paybacks and deliver high returns on investments, such as our energy and fuel conservation projects and the widespread deployment of Lean Green teams,” he said.
