Republican Congressman Dennis Ross Regarding The Postal Service

from Courier, Express, and Postal Observer

On February 17, 2011, newly elected Republican Congressman Dennis Ross tweeted, ” @dryMAILman we will have a website where the man or woman on the street can tell us how to improve service and cut costs.”

This is the first indication of what Congressman Ross wants to do as Government Reform Committee’s Subcommittee on Federal Workers, the Postal Service and Labor Policy.

  1. If the situation with the postal service is to be corrected in regards to pay regarding employees, why are postal supervisors not being reduced and just moved from one office to another. It is true that there is a restructuring of management but it is not being done as to save that much, small offices that have eliminated craft employees, that is clerks and carriers have been minimized but the management base is the same. Does every office need to have three supervisors, a postmaster and usually another 2 or 3 relief supervisors? The postal service needs to trim the fat, it is top heavy, supervisors that generate reports that are duplicated but with different names that do not help in the core responsibility of the service, which is to deliver mail.

  2. This Republican Congressman (Continuation) –

“Don’t get too excited about Congressman Ross’s eagerness to listen to working people though- here’s what he had to say a few hours earlier:

‘Governor Scott Walker has courage. As someone who has witnessed just how low public employee unions will stoop, I salute him.’ – Rep. Ross.

What Ross is referring to is Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s plan to eliminate collective bargaining rights for public sector workers in the state. It makes you wonder how long it will be before Ross suggests something similar for postal workers.”
